Lasers Are the Future of Optical Communications in Near Earth and Deep Space Applications

The Laser Communications Relay Demonstration project will continue NASA’s efforts to test the use of lasers in all of the agencies space communication needs. LCRD or “Laser Comm” holds the promise of carrying more data at a faster rate, saving ground station use and increasing efficiencies across the board, from near earth to deep space.
