Screaming Eagles Ambushed after IED attack in Afghanistan 2011

On 2 July 2011, my unit, Able Company 1/506th Infantry of the 101st Airborne Division came under intense RPG and SAF following a catastrophic IED strike on a route clearance engineer element. The opening footage shows the vehicle after it was literally cut in half by the blast. (I come into view with the M4/203) We were able to find the command wire and were in the process of following it when the Taliban initiated the ambush with RPGs and SAF one of the initial RPGs skipped through the gap in the wall and ended up in the crater caused by the IED blast and did not explode. From the Taliban’s point of view, they used the gap in the wall as a “front sight post“ for aiming their IED attack and initiated the blast when their view through the gap was filled with a slow moving MRAP. They buried over 200 meters of command wire and we had pulled up about 50 meters when they attacked. If you notice in the video, they start shooting at us when we were in that ditch.
