Joseph Villa plays Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto

A concert recording from April 24, 1984 featuring American pianist Joseph Villa playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra conducted by Julius Hegyi. Villa himself gave me the cassette with this recording, and while the sound is unfortunately not ideal, the pianism of phenomenal, as one expects from Villa: a massive dynamic range, lushly Romantic phrasing, attentive voicing, rhythmic propulsion, daring tempi, and staggering technical proficiency.
