At least three people were killed in severe flooding that hit central Tuscany on Thursday night as storm Chiaran swept across the country with torrential rain and high winds. All three flood victims were elderly, local newspaper La Nazione reported : two died in Montemurlo, near Prato, while another died in Rosignano, near Livorno. Tuscany Governor Eugenio Giani declared a state of emergency in the region in a social media post due to the floods, which he blamed on climate change. Around 150,000 homes were left without power after Storm Ciaran caused severe weather with widespread flooding and damage across the UK and Europe. Hundreds of schools and several airports have been forced to close as more than 80 flood warnings remain in force. The UK is reeling from the aftermath of the devastating storm Ciaran, which recorded wind gusts of more than 100mph in Jersey, with strong winds and rain forecast for parts of the country today.
