Even when I decide what I want to eat from a selection of food I have in my house, my decision is based on a program. And this program precedes my “decision.” I am simply playing out a program. So this program looks at the available options in front of me and calculates what can give me the best result, i.e. the greatest pleasure with the minimum amount of risk, effort, pain, and cost. In other words, there is an “accountant” at the back of my mind, constantly calculating what is the most effective, productive, and pleasurable result right now as opposed to the cost I make and pay for that pleasure.
