The Happy Vicars - South of Heaven (1967) #heavymetal #slayer
The original version of South of Heaven by The Happy Vicars from 1967, later reworked into a heavy metal classic by Slayer in 1988. Although the original was never a hit, it laid the foundations for a song that would become a metal classic and have angry parents throwing holy water on their children in the late 80’s. If legend is to be believed, Tom Araya is reported to have snorted some of the ashes of The Happy Vicars frontman, Dickie Nutter, while performing a Satanic ritual before Slayer’s recording of this song.
