Catharine Ellis, Woven Shibori and Natural Dye キャサリン エリス 織絞りと天然染料

This video includes a brief description of the woven shibori process: supplemental threads are woven into the cloth, then gathered, to form a resist for dyeing. Originally a handwoven process, Catharine now collaborates with The Oriole Mill, a small Jacquard weaving mill in North Carolina, USA, to weave some of her fabrics. Dyeing of the fabrics is done with indigo, cochineal, and other dye plants from Catharine’s garden.
