Who chose a multicultural Britain?

Until the 1980s, the generally accepted view was that immigrants to Britain would do their best to fit into the existing customs and way of life in the country. Their own languages and religions would thus be a private matter in their own homes. Since then, however, another perspective, that of multiculturalism, has become established. This suggests that it will be a good thing if all cultures are regarded as equally deserving of consideration.
