The story takes place one year after DMC5, and one year after the latest entry in the Touhou storyline; with liberties taken due to inconsistent lore and integration of the fandom with the latter. Eientei has been destroyed by an unknown attacker, and it is apparent that other Youkai and residents of Gensokyo have been killed as well. These Blue and Red Devils seem to be after Gensokyo’s destruction. Reimu and Reisen pledge revenge against these Blue and Red Devils to the point of where they seek their deaths instead of pacification.
