Victory Loan (1914-1918)

Titles read: ’Victory Loan. The King and Chancellor of Exchequer appeal for a “Record“ Loan.’ London. Opens w/ a trick film thing: scrambled letters spread out; arrange themselves as Buy Victory Bonds. CU Chancellor of the Exchequer Bonar Law speaking. CU document; nestled in flag - probably letter from King as it’s followed by CU photograph of George V w/ flag around it. Brief shot of soldiers marching across field. Pan across Trafalgar Square showing crowds of people and large banners all over the base of Nelson’s Column, urging people to give to the fund - ’Only 1 Day More - Germany Is Watching - Go To Your Bank Tonight’. A huge banner at the back of the square takes a parental tone - ’YOU! Have you bought your war loan?’. Note: shot lingers on the letter for quite a while, but it is too small and faint to read on monitor - might be legible on cinema screen! SL. World War One; home front; fund-raising; royalty. Patriotism; Britain; England FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PAT
