We’re back to one of my favourite bands of all time, that I sadly discovered way too late on my musical journey: British Synthpop icons DEPECHE MODE. When it comes to this band, it’s really hard for me to pick a favourite song, let alone a favourite album. There’s just something magical about Martin Gore’s song writing and Dave Gahan’s interpretation, regardless of the era the band’s been in. So I picked a song from one of their albums, that’s definitely in my top 3 by the band: MUSIC FOR THE MASSES, released in 1987. The song is the third single from this album, and it’s the opener of their legendary live LP ’101’: BEHIND THE WHEEL is a fantastic combination of a stoic electronic beat, mysterious synthesizer hooks and some pretty catchy lyrics, so it’s basically a blueprint for a typical Depeche Mode song in the best sense imaginable. Mixing this one was quite an adventure, regarding all of these different electronic sounds, samples and reverb-saturated drums, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out in the end.
