The plot twist at the end explains everything. At first it’s strange that only the kids notice the problem happening while the adults are being ignorant on purpose. The ending reveals that the world is covered in water (problems), and while the kids and teenagers entering adulthood see the problems and are trying to fix everything, adults just gave up because acknowledging the problems is going to make them miserable. Even the grandpa knows that something is wrong when he looks at his granddaughter crying, but he already gave up on trying to fix the problem. This is a painful and accurate picture of reality drawn as a cartoon.(c)
