Chad & Jeremy - A Summer Song (1964)

One of my favorite folk rock ballads from the mid-60’s is Chad & Jeremy’s “A Summer Song.“ I absolutely love the plucked acoustic guitar portions on this one, it is a difficult progression to play, especially in one touchy spot where the tabs being plucked almost sound like they are going to spin out of control, but then the whole transition ends up being pulled off so beautifully. It is a haunting melody, with the string orchestra playing in the background and a few brief places where Tijuana Brass style trumpets are used for effect, giving it such a beautiful 1960’s flavor. There is a generous amount of 60’s footage used in this video, along with portions from the opening sequence of a certain film from 1978 (guess which one). “A Summer Song“ was Chad & Jeremy’s second major hit single. After its debut on August 22, 1964, it peaked at #7 on Billboard and at #8 on Cash Box on October 17, 1964 for two weeks ... in time for the colorful leafy concluding days of
