Chester Zoo Lions | New Asiatic Lion Enclosure and Habitat | October 2019 | Lion Feeding Time
We visit the brand new Asiatic Lion Area at Chester Zoo.
This Habitat has been inspired and modelled on the Gir Forest in India, home to the last remaining wild population of Asiatic Lions. There are only around 500 Asiatic Lions left in the wild and so the species is officially Endangered. Chester Zoo is working with the European Breeding program, to try and prevent these animals form extinction.
The new Habitat is state of the art and at 2 sq miles, is the largest of it’s type in the UK. It has been specially designed for the Lions and features, Heated Rocks Elevated Platforms, Dens, Watering Hole and a Beach.
The new glass viewing panels and raised viewing area offer fantastic close up, clear views of the Lions. Well worth a visit.
