After arriving, my family and I were questioned and held waiting for over 10 hours. We had our electronics seized, and were asked to provide phone PINs and computer passwords. As a family with Ukrainian roots, we understand the extra precautions taken by Russian authorities, but the experience was exhausting and challenging—especially with tired, hungry, and thirsty kids. In this honest and balanced reflection, I share the details of what happened and my thoughts on the process. While it was a tough start to our journey, we remain optimistic about embracing life in Russia.
