It was the first-ever UFC event held in Philadelphia. The event featured the second title defense of Lightweight Champion BJ Penn against Kenny Florian, and a non-title Light Heavyweight bout for Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva against former Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin. Anderson Silva had put on plenty of spectacular performances over the course of his scintillating career, and few were as memorable as his 205-pound clash with Forrest Griffin. Everyone knew Silva was good, but the zone he was in when he toyed with Griffin for three minutes before knocking him out made it one of the most flawless showings of his career. Griffin was knocked down three times in the first round. The bout earned Silva Beatdown of the Year honors from Sherdog. The bout shared those honors with the second bout between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir. Both fighters were awarded $60,000 as Fight of the Night bonuses and Silva received $60,000 in bonus money for Knockout of the Night
