Ivan Trevino - Seesaw (Excerpt)

Seesaw was commissioned by a consortium membership organized by New Works Project (). As a member, we agreed to general terms for Trevino’s composition, requesting a portable setup for 2 players, using open instrumentation. Due to his experiences in popular music, Trevino arrived at a shared acoustic guitar played percussively - perhaps a first of its kind in the percussion repertoire. There are moments when the guitar is used as a percussion instrument, with the players striking the instrument in various areas with sticks to produce different sounds and colors. There are also moments that feature guitar techniques like harmonics, hammer-ons and pull-offs. The piece is notated in tablature, which facilities a non-traditional string tuning. This recording is from the midwest premiere performance on October 24, 2020 at Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls, IA. (Performed with Dr. Kramer Milan)
