House collapses INTO THE OCEAN on Outer Banks in Rodanthe, NC

As the Outer Banks experiences beach erosion, rip currents and overwash, which closed a segment of N.C. Highway 12 on Tuesday, another seaside house has collapsed. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore said an unoccupied house collapsed at 24235 Ocean Drive in Rodanthe, prompting officials to close that segment of the beach to protect people from the large debris. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore said more homes could collapse this week as the Carolina coast is impacted by the storm. Earlier Tuesday morning, the state Department of Transportation made the announcement that N.C. 12 was closed between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe after high tide caused the main Outer Banks thoroughfare to became covered in sand and water. Another house collapsed in Rodanthe in February due to beach erosion. Noah Gillam, the planning director for Dare County, said the home was likely damaged in another high tide event before its collapse. After something like that happens, the owners have the choice to either relocate the structure completely or move it somewhere on the lot. #OBX #OuterBanks #NC READ MORE:
