Ukrainian sisters face jail for twerking on soldiers graves

Two Ukrainian sisters face up to five years in jail after filming themselves dancing and twerking on the graves of fallen soldiers, including their father’s. The unidentified sisters had been visiting the grave of their father at the Forest Cemetery in Kiev, on Ukraine’s Independence Day, no less, to mourn his passing. He had recently been killed in the conflict with Russia. Then, for reasons unknown to anyone over the age of 19, the two girls set up a camera and began dancing on the graves of two soldiers, including provocative twerking. To make matters worse, one was wearing socks with crocs. The pair were almost immediately arrested and charged under ‘Part 2 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — insult to the grave.’ According to Kiev police, the two ‘face restriction of liberty for a period of three to five years or deprivation of liberty for the same period.’ In an apology on Instagram, the two said ‘My sister and I want to apologize to everyone, apologize for our thoughtless video. It was absolutely not our aim to denigrate anyone, least of all the memory of our fallen heroes.’ The account, @‌vl_lindemann, has since been wiped of everything except the apology.
