Shell Making (1914-1918)

Shell Making - Heckla Factory in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. CU white-hot shell on floor. Pan as it is lifted by chain & clamp held by worker; lowered into machine where further shaped; removed (sequence is very dark). ECU shell spinning as machine smoothes point; sparks & molten metal fly. Pull back on same w/ worker watching. CU workers fit end on shell hanging from chains; bang it w/ mallets. 3 men push it away. Next shot should be 1st: white-hot shell rises up in opening from furnace; is pulled out. Different view man lifting it w/ clamp. Worker checking shell; using various rings etc. Great shot! GV busy factory; seen from height: much activity. Workers below inspect rows of many shells on long tables; machines on sides; back; shells hanging from hooks move up & down on pulleys.
