Yuri Ovchinnikov - 1976 European Figure Skating Championships FS

Yuri skating one of his best free skates here in Geneva under the tutelage of Alexei Mishin. There was a definite move to up the technical content going into 1976 in order to compete. It’s interesting to wonder what the outcome would have been a year before if he had skated like this at the Worlds in 1975 - where he used the same free program - but with this technical content and having already won the SP. Despite the more dramatic interpretation and a glut of triples, this performance couldn’t get him a repeat medal at the 1976 Europeans haveing been bronze medallist in 1975.
