Behind The Blackout (1940)

Titles read: “Pathetone Presents - ’Behind the Blackout’ - A peep at personalities at the famous Florida Club - London“. London. Brief shot shows several torch lights shining in the blackout while the neon sign reading ’The New Florida’ flashes in the top left hand corner of the shot. Inside the Florida Club we see couples dancing, including band leader Carroll Gibbons and his wife. Most of the men are in uniform. Blonde contortionist Denize Vane is the first cabaret act we see. She does some ’contortions’ then turns several cartwheels in quick succession. Impressionist Carl Carlisle does impersonations of Lionel Barrymore and Edward Everett Horton. We then see the fabulous American singer Adelaide Hall performing a section of the song ’It Ain’t What You Do’ - she also does a few ’Shim-sham’ dance steps in the instrumental break - brilliant!
