Nagauta “Fujimusume“ Fujima Murasaki This Nagauta piece is based on Fujimusume (wisteria maiden), the subject of an Otsu-e (picture from Otsu, Shiga) that was popular during the Edo period. On an impressive stage set featuring a huge pine tree and wisteria flowers, the wisteria spirit dances, piquantly expressing a woman’s colorful heart. This is a masterpiece with varying musical compositions, including elegant dances to the accompaniment of Fujiondo (marching songs of the wisteria) and the use of the hikinuki technique (a quick change of costume).
