Beijing received Musk’s visit with a very high profile: “A booster shot that only last 15 minutes“
#Chinainsights
Billionaire Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, Twitter, SpaceX, and other companies, arrived in Beijing on May 30. This was his first visit to China in more than three years. His visit came at a time of growing tensions between Washington and Beijing.
Beijing received Musk’s visit with a very high profile. It far surpassed previous visits to Beijing by JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla. There should be a win-win expectation in the plans of the Chinese Communist Party, CCP, and Musk. But what many Western businesspeople may not know is that it’s the CCP leader, Xi Jinping, who has the strong will to push for decoupling, and it will be the biggest variable in these plans of doing business in China.
