A freight train, loaded with 32 containers, started its maiden journey on Monday from the port of Trieste in northeastern Italy marking new milestone in the expansion of the trans-Eurasian railway network. Operated by China’s COSCO SHIPPING, the freight train service is part of the China-Europe Land-Sea Express Line which combines sea and land transportation, stretching from the Greek port city of Piraeus to the hinterland of Europe. The Trieste Maritime Terminal will become a gateway to Central and Eastern Europe. Trieste is the fourth channel to be opened on the China-Europe Land-Sea Express Line in Europe, after the main channel of Piraeus Port the channel of Rijeka in Croatia, and the Valencia-Madrid-Bilbao channel in Spain. Running 3 to 4 times a week, the new route will help to secure the global supply chain and reduce the costs and risks amid pandemic and conflicts.
