“Kids - Get Voting“ - Marsh Family non-partisan parody of “Kids“ by Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue

In both the UK and the US, which are seeing vital elections in 2024 (starting with the local elections in the UK next week), the youth voter turnout is very low. It’s below 60% in the UK for 25-34-year-olds, and in the US in 2020 young people turned out at almost half the rate of older voters. So with Alfie about to vote in his first General Election later this year, we decided to tackle the subject by putting together a parody of the song “Kids“ written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, and first released as a duet with Kylie in 2000 (part of his album Sing When You’re Winning, and hers, Light Years) - including the dreadful rap at the end, which we chose to hand over to Ori Ori and friends. ________ We actually recorded this live around the table last Monday as part of a brilliant British campaign called “Give an X“ encouraging voter registration, but we messed up the camera focus, so it wasn’t very shareable. And since we had a laugh singing it, and figured it was an important topic - we decided to revisit the whole shebang and work it up from scratch, including all instruments. This is a ’clean’ version too, so might even work for younger listeners - all the research shows engaging with politics and in elections is a habit that can be embedded just as effectively as it can be abandoned.
