What Are Spiritual Worlds?

Are spiritual worlds physical places? What does it mean that spiritual worlds denote a certain concealment? How many realities exist? How many concealments do we have towards the true reality? What are Partzufim and Sephirot? How do the spiritual worlds relate to each other? What does it mean that a higher spiritual world is like a seal towards the lower degree? When we talk about a “world” in the wisdom of Kabbalah, we do not refer to a “place,” like our physical cosmos. This cosmos seems to us like a physical space that we exist in. Instead, “world” in Hebrew, “Olam,” originates from the expression “HaAlamah” which means concealment. So, what does it mean to exist in a “spiritual world?” What are “spiritual worlds?” These “spiritual worlds” are levels of concealment. There is only a single reality. The question is to what extent can we actually feel and perceive this single reality? What percentage of this single reality is revealed to us, and how much of it is still concealed from us? This determines the level of concealment we are in. In other words, this determines the “world” we are in. Altogether, Kabbalists have broken down the entire spiritual path towards revelation into five worlds. This means five big levels of concealment. In every such level, there are many sublevels or spiritual degrees. We also call these levels Partzufim and Sephirot as we go into smaller details. A seal and imprint refers to how every lower level of concealment is created based on the shape and form of the upper degree above it. So, the upper world, the upper level of concealment, will always be like a seal with regard to the imprint, which is the lower degree. It is similar to how kids, in a certain way, are like an imprint of their parents. And it is also similar to a physical seal and its imprint in the wax.
