Jeremy Renner Pushes for Northern Nevada Film Hub, Faces Hurdles in Legislature
Actor Jeremy Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has a vision to make northern Nevada a film hub. But his plan may have to wait until the next legislative session, as lawmakers are focused on a bill that would provide tax credits for film projects in southern Nevada.
Renner, who grew up in Modesto, California, and owns a home near Lake Tahoe, spent Monday lobbying Nevada legislators to include his home region in a tax deal that would expand the film industry to Las Vegas. He proposed a third site for film production in northern Nevada, which he said could compete with other states like Georgia and New Mexico that have attracted major film studios.
However, his proposal was met with resistance from the sponsor of the bill, Democratic Sen. Roberta Lange of Las Vegas, who said it was too late to amend the bill that has been in the works for two years.
