Astor Piazzolla’s works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. Because it is so hard to define whether his music belongs to classical or jazz, he became a beloved one at both. My mission as an emerging saxophone soloist is to extend the repertoire for my instrument. I believe that making the arrangements of well-known repertoires, such as Piazzolla’s La Muerte del Angel, will help the saxophone to find a place it deserves among long-established instruments of the classical music world. I always try to add some creative elements into my arrangements. Because the music of Piazzolla is primarily related to the dance, the idea of playing the Cajon and the saxophone simultaneously, not only brings more excitement to the piece, but also allows the audience to feel the rhythm of this tango even better.
