Tawny owl chicks Tawny owl chicks are notoriously adventurous and before these four were fully feathered theyowlets began climbing out to the nes and hopping on to the nearest branches. Mishaps This can sometimes lead to mishaps - like when the oldest loses its footing in the wind and, after hanging clumsily upside down for a brief moment, lands in a hawthorn bush! Dangers This adventurous spirit also means that sometimes they got a little too close to danger. Watch one retreat when two common buzzards appear at the pond beneath their tree nest. Brief retreats Normally once a tawny owl has fledged the nest it doesnt’ return, but these three often flew back to the nest for brief visits with siblings that had not yet fledged - or to take shelter during rainstorms. Bonnie & Ozzy The parents continue to feed the chicks on the nearby branches, and, I also help out. Although, after one chick is knocked flying from the feeding branch by a buzzard and disappears for days, I move the branch to a safer spot near the nest. Out in the world It’s been an amazing journey watching these tawny owlets grow and credit to Bonnie & Ozzy for doing such an amazing job. *ABOUT ME* ____________ I am a British wildlife artist and filmmaker on a mission to share my love for wildlife with the world.
