Dave ‘Bookie’ Bookman Honoured with Heritage Toronto Plaque

Our very own Dave “Bookie” Bookman has been honoured with a Heritage Toronto plaque outside of the Horseshoe Tavern. Bookman, who passed away on May 21st, 2019, had a longstanding relationship with the Horseshoe Tavern, where he hosted his Nu Music Nites. That weekly concert showcase, which began in 1993, quickly became a career-starter in the industry, launching some of the biggest bands in the country. On July 27th 2022, Bookie’s close friends and family gathered together to unveil a Heritage Toronto plaque honouring his passion, positivity, and promotion of independent music. Artists like Billy Talent, Broken Social Scene, Arkells, and Rheostatics gathered outside of the Horseshoe to memorialize our dear friend. The plaque is set to permanently stand outside of the beloved Queen Street West and Spadina music venue. Hosted by our very own Josie Dye, the unveiling saw appearances and performances from Billy Talent’s Ben Kowalewicz, Bookman’s bandmate Tim Mech, July Talk’s Leah Fay
