Intense - The Sax Lick (1996)

A personal absolute #1 favourite and a track that holds a very special place in my heart. This is the one tune that fully got me properly interested in drum & bass classics and the genre as a whole. Featuring a sax lick (go figure) from the great late Malcom ’Molly’ Duncan who’s the father of Dan Duncan who’s part of Intense. I absolutely love the fusion of one amazing music artist’s style to a completely new one. You have a beautiful choir and deep punching bassline with fast jamming percussion accompanied by a bright tambourine going all the way, all of that being encompassed by spaced out sound effects truly feeling the “futuristic/space“ interest from that era. Then, just when you thought it was at it’s peak you’re met with a nice space-esque synth break leading back into the main bassline and beat. I’ve heard nothing like this at all ever and I want people to experience this in hopes they have the same almost visceral pleasure I got out of hearing something like this for the first time.
