GROWING ROOTS: Art for belonging co-designed and co-facilitated by Cathy Stubington and Mohammed Zaqout. It is a commission that comes out of The Only Animal’s work with the Artist Brigade. The Artist Brigade brings art and artists to the climate crisis. For more information visit: Artist Brigade. The focus of the project is to work with a group of refugee claimants to engage in a creative process designed to encourage them to learn about and become connected to the natural world that surrounds them here. It involves storytelling, poetry, memoir, and making something with their hands, resulting in a public presentation. In learning and noticing more about this land, its plants, animals and its original people, refugees can begin to feel connected and ultimately take responsibility for climate change.
