Barbès is a poor quarter of Paris with a population mainly resulting from immigration. There are a lot of dealers and all kinds of traffic so you have to be careful if you go there. There are no tourists in this area, it is a very authentic district with a very special atmosphere. I enjoyed this walk I hope it will be the same for you.
