RIP Mary Wilson of the Supremes Singer Mary Wilson, known from vocal group The Supremes, has passed away. The American singer died at the age of 76 at her home in Las Vegas. Wilson formed the group The Primettes together with Diana Ross, Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown in the late 1950s. Two years later, the quartet signed a record deal with Motown and the group’s name was changed to The Supremes. “I am extremely shocked and saddened by this news,“ said Berry Gordy, founder of Motown in US media. “Mary was a pioneer, a diva, she will be sorely missed.“ The Supremes are regarded as one of the most important music groups in the US and Europe.
