The ’One After 909’ is the oldest Beatle song ever. The song was written as early as 1957, and is one of the first Lennon--McCartney compositions. In his 1980 playboy interview, Lennon explained. ’That was something I wrote when I was about seventeen’. McCartney said, ’t’s not a great song, but it’s a great favourite of mine because it has great memories for me of John. We were trying to write a bluesy freight-train song. There were a lots of those songs at the time, like Midnight Special by Lead belly. We wrote the ’One After 909. The girl in the song didn’t get the 909, she got the one after it. Its official release date, as part of the “Let It Be“ album, was May 1970. The real first recording took place during a rehearsal in the Cavern in 1962, only sound was recorded. It’s so different from record versions. It’s rough, just back from Germany, just before there first recordings took place. They held it back for so long because ’One After 909’ is also a more American rock-and-roll sounding song. Still its a milestone, especially because it is the first one Lennon-McCartney ever wrote.
