The Wall - Walpurgis Night - LP 1982

THE WALL were a Punk Rock band from Wallsend, near Sunderland, England, UK. Started in 1978. Moved to London in 1980. The band’s second album, “Dirges and Anthems“ was released in April 1982 on Polydor Records, where this song is from and which is still waiting for a CD-release. Polydor insisted that “Epitaph“ should be released as a single, but it was outsold by the “Hobby for a Day“ EP released on Fresh Records shortly before, and the band were dropped by Polydor. This second album on Polydor shows how Punk develops to Postpunk with some Goth elements. THE WALL were reduced to a duo which soldiered on for one last effort, the fantastic and a bit Goth-like “Day Tripper“-album in late 1982, before the group split up. Their first singer Ian Lowery went later to SKI PATROL and then formed FOLK DEVILS - a fantastic Postpunk-band. He died in 2001. THE WALL were one of the best Punk bands in my opinion. I don’t own any rights. It’s just for the music.
