Rock and Roll Music--Happy Harris (Big 4 Hits, 1957)

When I saw “Happy Harris,“ I thought, “This should be good.“ Well, my happy prediction was a bit off--not a good singer to begin with, Happy also has a habit of flattening out any and all syncopation. Can you imagine Chuck Berry’s “Rock and Roll Music“ rendered, for the most part, in straight eighth and quarter notes? Well, you don’t have to--just listen. I have to wonder if Harris had ever heard Berry’s record.
