Santa Esmeralda starring Leroy Gomez Santa Esmeralda was a band founded by Leroy Gómez. He started his own band at the age of 14 and later joined Tavares. He went on tour with them in North America and Europe. In Paris, he was invited by Elton John to work on his album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. After this Gómez left Tavares and the songwriters got to know Nicolas Skorsky and Jean Manuel de Scarano. He founded the Santa Esmeralda band with them. The band’s first album was ’Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ with Leroy Gómez as singer. The album was a great success in Europe, and was released worldwide by Casablanca Records. It reached 35 in the Dutch Top 40 on #5 on 17 September 1977. The music is composed by Bennie Benjamin, Jean De Scarano, Gloria Caldwell, Nicolas Sharsky, Raymond Donnez, Sol Markus.
