On June 27th 1976, Air France Flight 139, left Tel Aviv for Paris, carrying 246 mainly Jewish and Israeli passengers. The plane made a stop in Athens, where it picked up another 58 people. Shortly after takeoff, it was hijacked and the flight was diverted first to Libya and then Entebbe Airport in Uganda. After a tense few days, Israel launched an audacious and ultimately successful rescue operation that is considered today to be one of the greatest counter-terror operations of all time.
