“Don’t Completely Whitewash HISTORY” | USA Renames Birds Named After Historical Figures

Birds in North America will no longer be named after people, the American Ornithological Society announced on Wednesday. Next year, the organisation will rename approximately 80 species found in the United States and Canada. The president of the organisation, Colleen Handel, stated that some English bird names have historical associations that are “exclusive and harmful even today”.
