Germany ends nuclear energy era as last reactors power down

Germany has shut down its last three nuclear power plants, more than 60 years after its first reactor started operating. The decision to phase out nuclear energy was taken by the Merkel government in 2011, after the accident at the Fukushima plant in Japan.
