Njal - Bergþórshvoll i Flammer (full album, 2023)

I am honoured to present another advance stream for you today. Coming to you in the May 26th tape drop from my great friends at Realm and Ritual, this poignantly feral, raw blackened punk demo from Denmark’s Njal. And that Northern orientation is as much detail as as you will get to revealing the identity of the anonymous project. Themed around the Icelandic Njáls saga, the demo explores the consequences to vengeance and the destructive nature of honour codes. Coincidentally, this is the second album I’ve featured in recent weeks that reminds me of that undersung USBM entity Crebain, particularly in the intensely pitched vocal shriek, but also the surging hi-tempo melodic punkiness of the music This release is part of the recently initiated Realm &and Ritual Demo Series, showcasing some even more subterranean treasures from the deepest corners of the black metal and dungeon synth underground. This demo will be available in a limited 30-copy tape edition next week, Friday May 26th
