Mali: Institutionalization of Azawad Separatists Following the opening of an office by the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) in Tin-Essako, a second outpost has now been established in Talhandak, near the Algerian border. The creation of regional administrations signals growing separatist control over areas where the Malian government remains absent. This expansion was made possible after reinforcements arrived from Libya, freeing up fighters to take on local “policing” roles. In these zones, the separatists are recruiting new members and collecting taxes to sustain their operations. They are also consolidating their legitimacy among anti-government circles in Bamako.
