Lode Runner (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Hudson’s 1987 action-puzzle game for the Nintendo, Lode Runner. Lode Runner was a very early game in the life of the 8-bit Nintendo. It was one of the first third-party licensed games to be released on the Famicom in 1984, and it was a port of the amazingly popular computer game released back in 1983. The premise is deceptively simple: armed with just a shovel and your wits, you must collect all of the treasure in each cave and escape. The caves, however, are filled with monsters - or in the NES version, Bombermen - that will do their utmost to prevent that from happening. They will pursue you relentlessly, and you have to be careful to not let them trap you as you scurry around for piles of gold. You can temporarily stop them by digging holes for them to fall into, but it doesn’t take them long to climb their way out and resume their chase. If you’ve ever played any Lode Runner game, you’ll feel immediately comfortable here: though it’s a port of the very first game in the series, the mechanics and flow of the gameplay haven’t changed much over the years. If you haven’t played a Lode Runner game, this one makes for an ideal starting point. Though it only has 50 of the original levels, the difficulty curve is fairly forgiving compared to the later entries, and hey - it stars Bomberman as the bad guy! I just wish they had included an ending of some sort! If you like a bit of strategy with your action gaming, I recommend this one without reservation. It’s far more substance than style, and it’s thoroughly engaging. I can’t say I was much surprised to learn that this was one of the NES’s first games to sell over a million copies. Random bit of trivia: some of music is “stock“ Hudson music from the early 80s. You can hear the Lode Runner’s stage clear music in the old Hudson computer games like Mario Bros. Special for the PC88. _ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
