Embarrassment for Ministry of Defence as Trident missile test fails

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has insisted a key part of the UK’s nuclear defence is “safe, secure and effective“ after a missile test failure. A Trident missile fired by a nuclear submarine crashed into the ocean off the coast of Florida due to an “anomaly“, the MoD said. The fault had something to do with it being a test-firing, with a source saying that the launch would have been successful had it been carried out for real with a nuclear warhead.
