In full: Menendez Brothers could be released after recommendation for re-sentencing
Two brothers who murdered their parents could be recommended for release after spending decades in prison.
Lyle and Erik Menendez were given two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole when they were convicted of shooting their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion in 1989.
However, the court did not consider their claim of suffering sexual abuse at the hands of their father, and new evidence appearing to back up the allegation has prompted a public outcry about the case.
George Gascón, the Los Angeles County district attorney, will make his recommendation on whether the Menendez brothers should be resentenced at a press conference beginning at 4:30pm ET.
If Mr Gascón supports resentencing, as he is expected to, then their case will go before a judge who will then decide whether the pair will be released from prison, receive a shorter sentence, or get a new trial.
