Rachmaninov - Symphonic Dances (1st movement: Non allegro)

This is the first movement (’Non allegro’) of Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, recorded in Moscow in October 1995 by the State Symphony Orchestra of Russian Federation conducted by Yevgeny Svetlanov. About this work, Svetlanov told once what follows: “I freely confess that Rachmaninov’s «Symphonic Dances» are not only my favourite work by this composer but my favourite piece in the whole repertoire. Imagine how difficult it is to make such a statement. Some things are inevitable, like a first love. The fate of this piece is of major, personal significance for me.“
