I’m performing at the Silesia Drum Festival in Poland next weekend. 🙂 Currently messing around with some ideas for a solo, and this video is from today’s practice session.
You can tell I’m exploring a theme in this clip. Trying to stay loose and fluid, with a lot of focus on toms, even letting some of the notes “bridge“ subdivisions and just roll over the hihat pulse. Which is HARD to do well. 😭
When I prepare for a clinic, masterclass or festival performance, I usually go about planning it like this:
1. Vague outline on a PDF. Theme, duration, etc.
👇
2. Decide which songs and solos to play.
👇
3. Finalize the PDF with teaching topics, timestamps, keywords, etc.
👇
4. Practice!
Currently I’m somewhere between stage 3 and 4. I’ve picked out the songs I’ll play, I’m practicing the material, I’m writing a solo, and I’ve made a PDF with almost all the details ironed out.
