Antonio Gades baila la Farruca

The FARRUCA is a dramatic flamenco dance characterized by fast turns, quick intense footwork (zapateado), held lifts and falls, dramatic poses and bursts of hand movements (filigrana) often with a flat hand. Its origin is traditionally associated with the folklore of northern Spain, and it was brought to Andalusia in the middle of the 19th century by the young men who went to that region to work as seasonal workers. “Farruco/a“ is a slang term used in Andalusia and Latin America to refer to someone from the Spanish provinces of Galicia or Asturias who is far from home.
